The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 But We see it very near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 But not so the worshippers 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 for such as ask [for help] and such as are deprived [of what is good in life]; 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 and guard their private parts 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
