The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A beseecher besought the visitation of chastisement, 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On that Day the heavens shall become like molten brass, 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 except those who are steadfast 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 Are free of blame, 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
