The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 They deem it to be remote. 6 But We see it very near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 and [when] no friend will ask about his friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 His wife and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 Dragging by the head, 16 Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right). 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
