The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And then the mountains shall become like unto wool dyed. 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 as they are given sight of them. The sinner will wish that he might ransom himself from the chastisement of that day even by his sons, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 tearing away his skin! 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 save those that pray 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35

Notes and Instructions
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
