The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 except those that pray 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 and those who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges; 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
