The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 And We see it nigh. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 his wife, his brother, 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 Eager to roast; 16 and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 except those that pray 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 who acknowledge the Day of Judgment, 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
