The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 but We see it near. 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 They will be seeing them; the guilty will wish if only he could redeem himself from the punishment of that day, by offering his sons. 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 Eager to roast; 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And amasses (wealth) then shuts it up. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Not so are the prayerful. 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 They will live in gardens with honour. 35
