The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Indeed, the human was created grudging and impatient. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 save those that pray 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,- 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 And those who stand by their testimony 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
