The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 and amass [wealth] and thereupon withhold [it from their fellow-men]. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 except those who are steadfast 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 such people will receive due honor in Paradise. 35
