The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It shall claim him who turned and fled (from truth), 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 except those that pray, 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
