The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 his wife, his brother, 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 stripping away his skin, 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for such as ask [for help] and such as are deprived [of what is good in life]; 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 (from their Lord's chastisement none feels secure) 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, they are the transgressors. 31 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant, 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
