The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 all the angels and all the inspiration [ever granted to man] ascend unto Him [daily,] in a day the length whereof is [like] fifty thousand years… 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 Eager to roast; 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man was created fretful, 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he grows niggardly. 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 who guard their privates 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
