The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 they see it as being far off; 6 but, We see it as near! 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 his wife, his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 and all those on earth. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 that will strip off the scalp. 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 and those in whose wealth there is a known right 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
