The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And niggardly when good touches him; 21 except those who are steadfast 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 for the impoverished nonrequester and the requester, 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who of their prayer are observant. 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
