The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 And We see it nigh. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the needy and those dispossessed, 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 Are free of blame, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
