The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 Upon the infidels -- which none would be able to repel -- 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 But We see it [as] near. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains become like wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 No, in truth, it is a Furnace! 15 snatching away the scalp, 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the (women slaves and captives) whom their right hands possess, for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
