Noah (Nooh)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
We sent Noah to his people telling him, "Warn your people before a painful torment approaches them". 1 Noah said, "My people, I am warning you plainly. 2 That you should serve Allah and be careful of (your duty to) Him and obey me: 3 He will forgive you your sins, and will defer you to an appointed term. Verily the term of Allah when it cometh shall not be deferred, if ye but knew. 4 Noah said, "My Lord, I have been preaching to my people, night and day, 5 but the more I called, the farther they fled. 6 "And verily! Every time I called unto them that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, and persisted (in their refusal), and magnified themselves in pride. 7 And lo! I have called unto them aloud, 8 then indeed I spoke publicly unto them, and I spoke unto them secretly, 9 And I told them: 'Ask your Lord to forgive you. He is verily forgiving. 10 He will send you abundant 11 and will aid you with worldly goods and children, and will bestow upon you gardens, and bestow upon you running waters. 12 "'What is the matter with you, that ye place not your hope for kindness and long-suffering in Allah,- 13 ‘Whereas it is He Who created you in different stages?’ 14 Do you not see how Allah has created seven heavens, one upon the other, 15 and placed therein the moon as a light and the sun as a torch. 16 And Allah has brought you forth from the (dust of) earth. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 29, Page 97]. 17 how He will then return you to it and bring you forth again, 18 how God has spread the earth out for you 19 so that you walk in its spacious paths.' 20
