Noah (Nooh)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
We sent Noah to his people, saying, 'Warn thy people, ere there come on them a painful chastisement.' 1 He said, “O my people! I am indeed a Herald of clear warnings to you.” 2 (Bidding you): Serve Allah and keep your duty unto Him and obey me, 3 "So He may forgive you your sins and give you respite for a stated Term: for when the Term given by Allah is accomplished, it cannot be put forward: if ye only knew." 4 He said; 'My Lord, I have called my people by night and by day, 5 But all my calling doth but add to their repugnance; 6 And every time I called them that You may forgive them, they thrust their fingers into their ears, and covered themselves with their garments, and became wayward, and behaved with downright insolence. 7 Then I summoned them openly, 8 and, behold I preached to them in public; and I spoke to them secretly, in private; 9 "Ask for forgiveness of your Lord," I said. "Surely, He is the Forgiver. 10 He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers 11 And help you with wealth and sons, and make for you gardens, and make for you rivers. 12 ‘What is the matter with you, that you do not desire honour from Allah?’ 13 who has created you in several stages? 14 Do you not consider how Allah has created seven heavens in layers 15 And made the moon therein a light, and made the sun a lamp? 16 And Allah has brought you forth from the (dust of) earth. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 29, Page 97]. 17 He will then return you back to it, and bring you out again. 18 God has spread out the earth 19 so that you might walk thereon on spacious paths.'" 20
