Noah (Nooh)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Verily, We sent Nuh (Noah) to his people (Saying): "Warn your people before there comes to them a painful torment." 1 He said: O my people! verily I am unto you a warner manifest. 2 "That ye should worship Allah, fear Him and obey me: 3 Allah will forgive you of your sins and delay you for a specified term. Indeed, the time [set by] Allah, when it comes, will not be delayed, if you only knew.' " 4 [And after a time, Noah] said: "O my Sustainer! Verily, I have been calling unto my people night and day 5 But my call has only made them flee the more: 6 And whenever I have called them that Thou mayest forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, cover themselves with their garments, and persist and are puffed up with pride: 7 Then I summoned them openly, 8 Then verily I spake unto them openly and secretly. I also addressed them. 9 And I said: ask forgiveness of your Lord; verily He is ever Most Forgiving. 10 and He will loose heaven upon you in torrents 11 and will aid you with worldly goods and children, and will bestow upon you gardens, and bestow upon you running waters. 12 "'What is the matter with you, that ye place not your hope for kindness and long-suffering in Allah,- 13 He has created you by stages! 14 Behold ye not in what wise Allah hath created seven heavens in storeys. 15 ‘And in them, has illuminated the moon, and made the sun a lamp?’ 16 God made you grow from the earth. 17 "'And in the End He will return you into the (earth), and raise you forth (again at the Resurrection)? 18 And Allah hath made the earth a wide expanse for you 19 so that you might walk thereon on spacious paths.'" 20
