Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
We sent Noah to his People (with the Command): "Do thou warn thy People before there comes to them a grievous Penalty." 1 He said: 'My nation, I am a clear warner for you. 2 that you should worship God [alone] and be conscious of Him. Pay heed to me. 3 That He may forgive some of your sins and prolong your term till an appointed time. Surely when God's appointed time is come it will not be put off, if only you knew! 4 He said: O my Lord! surely I have called my people by night and by day! 5 but the more I called, the farther they fled. 6 Each time I called them so that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers in their ears and wrapped themselves in their garments, and persisted becoming very proud. 7 Then I summoned them openly, 8 Then I announced to them and [also] confided to them secretly 9 I said to them: “Ask forgiveness from your Lord; surely He is Most Forgiving. 10 He will shower upon you heavenly blessings abundant, 11 and will provide you with wealth and children, and will bestow upon you gardens and rivers. 12 "'What is the matter with you, that ye place not your hope for kindness and long-suffering in Allah,- 13 "'Seeing that it is He that has created you in diverse stages? 14 See ye not how Allah hath created seven heavens in harmony, 15 setting in them the moon as a light and the sun as a lantern? 16 And Allah has brought you forth from the (dust of) earth. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 29, Page 97]. 17 And afterward He maketh you return thereto, and He will bring you forth again, a (new) forthbringing. 18 Allah has made the earth spread out for you 19 That of it ye may traverse the ways open. 20
