In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 Half of it,- or a little less, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
