In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 For half the night, or reduce some from it. 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On the day the earth and mountains will rock violently, and the mountains turn to a heap of poured-out sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
