In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Verily, We have sent to you (O men) a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) to be a witness over you, as We did send a Messenger [Musa (Moses)] to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
