In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you who have wrapped up in your garments! 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 Half of it,- or a little less, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 He is the Lord of the east and the west, there is no deity but Him, so take Him as your Guardian. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 BEHOLD, [O men,] We have sent unto you an apostle who shall bear witness to the truth before you, even as We sent an apostle unto Pharaoh: 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
