In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
