In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words. 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 We have in store for them heavy fetters and a blazing Fire, 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 How then, if ye disbelieve, shall ye escape, on a Day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
