Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 A half of it or a little less 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Verily, We shall send down to you a weighty Word (i.e. obligations, legal laws, etc.). 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little. 11 Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
