Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 And leave Me and the rejecters, the possessors of ease and plenty, and respite them a little. 11 Verily with Us are heavy fetters and Scorch. 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
