In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 Indeed getting up in the night is tougher, and the words flow with strength. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you – the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Indeed this is nothing but a Good Counsel; so let him who will take a way leading to his Lord. 19
