The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
