The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he thought; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
