The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
