The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 thy robes purify 4 stay away from sins 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then looked he, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
