The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 stay away from sins 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
