The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise and warn, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
