The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 Burning the skins! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
