The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 stay away from sins 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he looked around, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
