The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and children living in his presence, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
