The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Cloaked one, 1 arise, and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 and purify your robes, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
