The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And your clothing purify 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And children present [with him] 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
