The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 May he be condemned! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
