The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
