The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise and give warning! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And your clothing purify 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked round; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
