The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked round; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
