The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
