The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
