The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
