The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
