The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
