The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he thought; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
